The co-writers of Iron Man, Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, along with one of th original 1986 Highlander producers Peter Davis are apparently all onboard for a full remake of the cult sci-fi classic.
Pegged by Davis to include a lot more backstory that ties in with the previously dubious information made available in the not-quite-so-cult sequel, he also promises romance for the immortal Connor MacLeod:
"I would hate to think that people viewed 'Highlander' as a sword
fighting movie because it's much more than that. The
issues of an immortal falling in love with a woman and knowing
she's going to grow old and die in your arms, those are very
romantic issues to deal with."
Promising a story that's faithful to the original but wider in scope, this is one of those classic brands that fans will be more apprehensive of than excited about. If the team, which it must be said are certainly more than capable judging by their recent, individual successes, can pull this off they have a chance to revitalise a beloved character. If not, well... there can be only none. |
