Darth Vader is one of the most iconic movie characters in history, yet his powers and skills were very different in the Star Wars Legends stories. Before Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, it was star Wars The franchise consists of two main businesses. The first was star Wars Movies and canonical Clone Wars A series from the mind of George Lucas himself, the franchise’s core. The second is the work of many writers and artists around the world, dubbed star Wars Expanded Universe (EU).
However, after Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney and production began on the sequel trilogy, the studio chose to rebrand EU so that the filmmakers would not be constrained by specific rules and regulations introduced from the expanded material. the star Wars EU then became the Legends group, the same group as before, and now non-core to the core star Wars Skywalker movies and saga. Due to this, Legends has many strange and incredibly ambitious storylines star Wars characters, including the legendary Sith Lord Darth Vader, who has abilities and powers unseen from the Ancient Expanded Universe.
Destruction force
The first of these powers that Vader has been shown to have in Legends but isn’t star Wars Canon is a destructive force. Force Destruction is an ability that goes along with the dark side, allowing users to create a wide energy field that can be thrown at enemies. While this sounds similar to the Force push, which Darth Vader has been shown to display several times throughout star Wars canon, the movement’s dark side links make it more dangerous.
As implied by the name, Force Destroy emits a massive blast radius. This blast zone can cause anyone who comes into contact with it to instantly evaporate, and it differs greatly from star Wars Push the Jedi Force out of Kanon. The power of the Destruction Force is so formidable that even those who avoid direct contact with the blast are blasted backwards by its might. Vader used this ability in the Legends stories mind eye fragment, Written by Alan Dean Foster and the video game Star wars the force unleashed.
cloak of strength
Another ability that Darth Vader used star Wars Legends is the power of the Cloak of Power, also known as Force Camouflage. The Cloak of Power is an ability that sees the user manipulate the light and sound waves around them to make themselves invisible to the naked eye. In Legends, the Force cloak technology is often attributed to members of the Jedi Order who wielded the Force before the advent star Wars’ Palpatine and the Galactic Empire. After the Empire’s rise to power, knowledge of the Mantle of the Force was lost to the Jedi, before it was mastered by a group known only as the Disciples of Twilight.
According to a Wookieepedia account for star Wars Legends, Darth Vader used this ability on a bispin during his duel with Luke Skywalker. Vader did this to remain hidden from Luke before their duel began. However, due to Luke’s power with the Force and his fatherly relationship to Vader, the former sensed the latter despite Vader’s use of the Force cloak.
Healing power
Another power move that has been used throughout star Wars canon – though only in Legends by Darth Vader – is Force Healing. Mainly strength healing was seen star Wars properties like The Mandalorian And Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Where they are performed by Grogu and Rey respectively. In terms of Darth Vader, however, force healing was only attempted by a Sith Lord in Now-Legends. Shadows of the Empire.
In this novel, Vader attempts to heal his wounds obtained from Mustafar using only the Force by warping the process by focusing on dark side elements such as hatred and anger, rather than the more compassionate Jedi yearning for healing. Vader discovered that the healing process worked, allowing him to breathe for a short time without his suit. However, due to the ways of the dark side, Vader found that the healing was not permanent and only lasted as long as Vader kept his focus on hate and anger. Shortly thereafter, the pleasure generated by his body healing shattered his concentration.
Kentet (lightning force)
Kinetite is an ability of star Wars Legends that stem from the dark side of the power of lightning. In Legends, Kinetite allowed its user to forge force lightning into a field of kinetic energy that could be hurled at an enemy. Whereas the power of lightning as seen in cannonball burns and electrocutes its victims, Kinetite acts more as a blunt force tool and is hurled like a hard projectile against an opponent.
In Legends, back in Mind’s Eye fragmentVader used this move against Luke Skywalker on the planet Mimban. However, Luke, with the help of Obi-Wan Kenobi, reveals a weakness in Kinetite. If the target uses force defensively against the Kinetite, the ball can be pushed backwards against its wheel. Interestingly, Foster described kinetics as a kinetic force field Mind’s Eye fragment In 1978 before empire strikes, in which Vader became iconic. Since then, the comic book adaptation of the book has depicted him as closer to Force lightning, earning him the nickname Kinetite as a subset of the former ability.
Energy manipulation
One of the ultimate abilities that Darth Vader possessed star Wars Legends are a form of energy manipulation through the Force, which is also interestingly related to Force lightning. In the Legends video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed IIVader fights with his secret apprentice, Starkiller, on the Camino. On either side of the battle stage, two giant electric power towers could be seen. At one point during the duel, Vader uses the Force to shoot lightning at Starkiller.
While this is similar to Force lightning demonstrated by the likes of Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine and Darth Tyranus, the difference in Legends is that Vader did not conjure lightning. Instead, Vader used the Force to control pre-existing electricity, simply redirecting it towards Starkiller. Given the expansive nature of star Wars’ Legends content, Vader possesses a long list of abilities. However, these examples are major powers that Darth Vader has displayed in Legends that he hasn’t done on a larger scale star Wars canon.
